Previous CDC estimates indicated that the number of drug related deaths were accumulating at approximately 192 deaths per day.
New studies published by PLOS One and performed by the University of Pennsylvania from the National Institute on Aging and by the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, Georgetown University have found that those numbers are egregiously low and that the number of drug related deaths are more than double previous estimates and approximately 16 lives are lost every hour a total of 389 lives are lost every single day to due drug related causes.
In our efforts to keep the public informed on the latest information available, our death toll counter reflects this new data and highlights the need for intervention on all fronts to combat this rising crisis.
